spacer-picMy Role as a Parent Coordinator

Extended FamilyA parent coordinator is usually a mental health professiona lwho is often appointed by a court order to help facilitate decision-making by parents who previously have been in conflict after their children’s parenting plan and custody order has been in place. The parent coordinator may be selected by a judge or by attorneys with the clients’ mutual approval.

Issues discussed in these sessions can range from: education; discipline; extracurricular activities; holidays; medical care; and visitation. The parent coordinator assists the parents in making compromises, improving communication, and understanding the developmental needs of their children. One of the most important roles of the parent coordinator is to reduce conflict and help create a mutual respect between the parties. A parent coordinator does not give legal advice, provide therapy for either parent, or address child support issues. However, the parent coordinator can make recommendations to the parents about how to best implement the parenting plan, and how to meet the needs of their children.

Certifed by Montgomery of County to provide parent coordination.
